Publication Ethics
Publication Ethics
Ethical principles and responsibilities for authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher of the Journal of Data Science and Informatics Engineering (JoDSIE).
Publication Ethics Statement
Journal of Data Science and Informatics Engineering (JoDSIE) is committed to maintaining high standards of research and publication integrity. The journal expects authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher to act honestly, transparently, fairly, and responsibly throughout the publication process.
JoDSIE follows recognized principles of scholarly publishing ethics, including guidance developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and principles of transparency and best practice in scholarly publishing.
Core Ethical Principles
Integrity
Research and publication decisions should be based on honesty, accuracy, and responsible scholarly conduct.
Transparency
Relevant information about authorship, funding, conflicts, methods, and publication processes should be disclosed.
Fairness
Editorial and peer-review decisions should be based on scholarly merit and relevant evidence.
Accountability
All participants in the publication process are responsible for complying with applicable ethical standards.
Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical conduct of their research and submitted manuscripts.
- Submit only original work that has not been published elsewhere.
- Do not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal.
- Provide an accurate description of the research methods, data, results, and conclusions.
- Properly acknowledge and cite the work of others.
- Do not fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or selectively misrepresent research data or findings.
- Ensure that all listed authors have made meaningful contributions to the work.
- Obtain approval from all authors for the final submitted manuscript.
- Disclose relevant conflicts of interest and sources of funding where applicable.
- Cooperate with editors in correcting errors identified before or after publication.
Authorship and Contributorship
Authorship should reflect substantial intellectual or scholarly contributions to the research and manuscript. Individuals who do not meet authorship criteria should not be listed as authors merely because of position, supervision, funding, or affiliation.
Changes to authorship after submission should be justified and approved by all affected authors. The editorial office may request documentation before approving an authorship change.
Responsibilities of Editors
- Evaluate manuscripts based on scholarly quality, relevance, originality, and methodological soundness.
- Maintain editorial independence and avoid inappropriate influence from authors, institutions, sponsors, or other parties.
- Maintain confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and editorial correspondence.
- Select appropriate and independent reviewers.
- Manage conflicts of interest appropriately.
- Treat authors fairly and without discrimination.
- Investigate credible allegations of research or publication misconduct.
- Publish corrections, retractions, or other post-publication notices when necessary.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Conduct reviews objectively, fairly, and professionally.
- Accept a review assignment only when they have appropriate expertise and sufficient time.
- Declare any actual or potential conflict of interest before accepting the assignment.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding manuscripts under review.
- Do not use unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal or professional advantage.
- Provide constructive, evidence-based, and respectful comments.
- Alert the editor to suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, or other ethical concerns.
- Do not involve additional individuals in reviewing a manuscript without permission from the editor.
Research and Publication Misconduct
JoDSIE does not tolerate research or publication misconduct. Potential misconduct may be investigated before or after publication.
Unattributed use of another person's ideas, words, data, or work.
Inventing data, results, experiments, or other research information.
Manipulating research materials, processes, or data so that the research record is misleading.
Republishing substantially overlapping work without appropriate disclosure.
Inappropriate citation practices intended to artificially increase citations or influence metrics.
Including guest, gift, ghost, or otherwise inappropriate authorship.
Plagiarism and Similarity Screening
Manuscripts may undergo similarity screening using appropriate detection tools. Similarity results are treated as an editorial screening indicator and are assessed in context. A similarity percentage alone does not automatically establish plagiarism. Where substantial unattributed overlap or other ethical concerns are identified, the editorial office may request clarification, revision, reject the manuscript, or initiate further investigation as appropriate.
Conflicts of Interest
Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, professional, personal, institutional, or other relationship that could reasonably influence the research, review, or editorial decision.
Editors and reviewers should not participate in decisions involving manuscripts where they have a conflict of interest.
Funding and Financial Disclosure
Authors should disclose financial support, grants, institutional support, or other funding that contributed to the research or preparation of the manuscript. Any relevant role of the funder in research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, or publication should also be disclosed where applicable.
Data Availability and Reproducibility
Authors should describe research methods sufficiently to allow readers to understand and, where reasonably possible, reproduce the study.
Where appropriate and ethically permissible, authors are encouraged to provide information about data, code, software, research instruments, or other materials necessary to support verification and reproducibility.
Ethical Oversight
Research involving human participants, personal or sensitive data, animals, or other ethically sensitive subjects must comply with applicable institutional, national, and international ethical requirements.
Where ethical approval is required, authors should provide the appropriate approval information in the manuscript. Authors are responsible for obtaining informed consent or other required permissions where applicable.
Intellectual Property and Copyright
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material belonging to third parties. Published articles are subject to the journal's Copyright & Licensing Policy and the applicable Creative Commons license.
Complaints and Appeals
Authors may submit a complaint or appeal regarding an editorial decision or publication process by contacting the editorial office through the official journal contact channel.
Complaints and appeals will be considered fairly and confidentially. The journal may request relevant evidence or documentation and may consult an appropriate editor or independent person when necessary.
Post-Publication Corrections and Retractions
JoDSIE recognizes that errors or ethical concerns may be identified after publication. The journal may publish corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, or other appropriate notices when necessary to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
Corrections and retractions will be handled according to the nature and significance of the issue and in accordance with recognized publication-ethics guidance.
Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of submitted manuscripts, regardless of whether artificial intelligence tools were used during manuscript preparation.
Substantive use of generative AI should be disclosed in accordance with the journal's AI Ethics & Procedure. AI tools must not be listed as authors.
Commitment to Ethical Publishing
JoDSIE is committed to protecting the integrity of the scholarly record through responsible authorship, independent peer review, transparent editorial decision-making, ethical research practices, and appropriate post-publication correction mechanisms.
JoDSIE's publication ethics framework is informed by recognized scholarly publishing ethics and transparency principles, including guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) .
